This explosion-protected door was specifically designed for use in safe rooms and security areas where reliable resistance against overpressure is required. On February 24, 2025, the door was successfully tested by the Fraunhofer Institute in Efringen-Kirchen (Germany) with an explosion overpressure of up to 1 bar (15 psi for 20 ms). The pressure wave was applied directly from the front.
Thanks to its highly efficient steel construction, the door provides a high level of structural stability and operational reliability. In addition, the multi-point locking system with handles on the inside and outside ensures secure and convenient operation. The door can be opened and closed manually, ensuring reliable usability even in emergency or exceptional situations.
The door leaf is equipped with four robust hinges, allowing an opening angle of up to 180°. At the same time, the door leaf consists of 5 mm thick steel sheet, additionally filled with mineral wool and reinforced with ribs. As a result, the door leaf reaches a total thickness of 78 mm, further increasing resistance against mechanical and explosion-related loads.
Furthermore, the door frame is made of 3 mm thick steel sheet, ensuring a stable connection between the wall and the door. Despite its massive construction, the door weighs approximately 270 kg with external dimensions of 2150 × 1100 mm, providing a balanced combination of stability and usability.
Static Material Strength
The construction uses exclusively steel sheets that comply with the following standards:
-
EN 10025-2/2004
-
EN 10029 A/N
-
EN 10163-2 A/1
-
AD-2000 W1
The applied steel grade S235JR+M has the following mechanical properties:
-
Minimum yield strength: 225 N/mm² (MPa)
-
Minimum tensile strength: 360–510 N/mm² (MPa)
-
Elongation at break: 21 %
Therefore, the door meets the relevant requirements for strength, durability, and safety.
Surface Treatment
Finally, the door is coated with a corrosion protection primer that provides reliable basic protection against environmental influences and further extends the service life of the construction.
