High-performance breathing air supply for medium-sized shelter rooms
The VA 75 ventilation system is designed for continuous operation in shelters with a medium occupancy level. It ensures a reliable supply of fresh air while simultaneously extracting used indoor air in a controlled manner. This maintains stable oxygen levels and continuously reduces CO₂ concentration.
In normal operation, ventilation is provided via fresh air intake. In an emergency, the system can be switched to gas filtration mode quickly and without tools. The changeover is performed by disconnecting the flexible hoses, enabling effective air filtration in case of chemical, biological, or other hazardous contamination.
Standards, Certification, and Type Approval
All VA 75 ventilation systems supplied by BSSD are manufactured in accordance with the directives of the Federal Office for Civil Protection (BABS) and are type-tested by LABOR SPIEZ of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence (VBS).
Approvals (depending on manufacturer): BZS T 87-003, BZS TE 98-005
The applicable approval depends on configuration and manufacturer. BSSD ensures that only certified and approved systems are used.
Design, integration, and system compatibility
The VA 75 ventilation unit is a compact standalone device suitable for wall mounting inside shelters or installation in separate technical rooms. Multiple units can be operated in parallel if required.
Connection is made to a shared air intake with explosion protection valves and integrated air filter. Within the VA series, installation dimensions are standardized, which simplifies planning, replacement, and system expansion.
Differences between configurations—depending on the manufacturer—primarily relate to:
-
Pre-filters
-
Airflow measuring tube
-
Gas filter configuration
Standard Equipment and Emergency Operation
The VA 75 ventilation system is designed for both electric operation and full manual emergency operation. Standard equipment includes:
-
Ventilation unit with electric motor
-
Reduction gearbox
-
Dynamo with sealed 5-watt emergency lamp
-
On/off switch
-
Attachable hand crank for manual operation
-
Airflow measuring tube with throttle valve
-
Hose pair with coupling and four clamps
-
Operating manual with protective cover
In case of power failure, manual operation is fully possible. The integrated emergency lighting is powered by the dynamo, ensuring safe operation under outage conditions.
Optional equipment (depending on manufacturer):
-
Electric air heater
-
Non-return valve
-
Non-return valve
-
Mounting anchors
-
Alternative voltage and frequency configurations
Capacity and Applications
The VA 75 ventilation system is designed for shelters with 14 to 25 occupants and is particularly suitable for:
-
Larger private shelters
-
Multi-family residential buildings
-
Commercial and institutional shelters
-
Medium-sized public shelters
Its higher airflow capacity provides a balanced solution between compact design and performance.
Planning Guidelines and Minimum Requirements
-
Floor area per occupant: ≥ 1 m²
-
Floor area per VA unit: ≥ 1 m²
-
Room volume per occupant: ≥ 2.5 m³
-
Minimum shelter size: ≥ 8 m²
-
Minimum shelter width: 2.0 m
-
Minimum shelter height: 2.0 m
-
Maximum occupants per shelter compartment: ≤ 50
Additional planning must also consider furnishing and protective equipment such as blast doors, protective covers, or dry toilets.
