The explosion-protected door BD-1 was developed for the reliable protection of access points in security-critical structures. It is designed to withstand high explosion overpressures while maintaining the structural integrity of the building.
On February 13, 2025, the door was tested by the Fraunhofer Institute in Efringen-Kirchen (Germany). During the test, it withstood an explosion overpressure of up to 3 bar (45 psi for 20 ms). The pressure wave was applied directly from the front.
Due to its highly efficient steel construction, the BD-1 door is particularly suitable for safe rooms, critical infrastructure, industrial security areas, and special-purpose buildings with increased explosion protection requirements.
Construction and Design
The door features a solid door leaf made of 8 mm thick steel plate, filled with mineral wool and additionally reinforced with stiffening ribs. This results in a total door leaf thickness of 88 mm and provides high resistance against pressure and impact loads.
The locking system uses massive round locking bolts (Ø 38 mm × 40 mm) with handles on the inside and outside. Two robust arched hinges allow an opening angle of up to 180°. The door can be operated manually and opened and closed from both sides.
The door frame, made of 3 mm thick steel plate, ensures a stable and durable connection to the building structure.
