The explosion-protected door BD-3 was developed for the reliable protection of access points in structures with the highest security requirements. It is designed to withstand extreme explosion overpressures while maintaining the structural integrity of the building.
On February 13, 2025, the door was tested by the Fraunhofer Institute in Efringen-Kirchen (Germany). During the test, it withstood an explosion overpressure of up to 3 bar (45 psi for 20 ms). The pressure wave was applied directly from the front.
Due to its massive steel construction, the BD-3 door is particularly suitable for safe rooms, high-security areas, critical infrastructure, as well as industrial and governmental special-purpose buildings with increased explosion protection requirements.
Construction and Design
The door features a solid door leaf made of 20 mm thick steel plate, specifically designed for extreme mechanical and dynamic loads. With a door leaf thickness of 20 mm, the BD-3 provides exceptional resistance against pressure, impact, and debris effects.
The locking system uses heavy-duty flat bolts (20 × 60 mm) with handles on both the inside and outside. This allows manual operation and secure opening and closing from both sides. Two robust curved hinges enable an opening angle of up to 180° and ensure reliable operation despite the high door weight.
The door frame, made of 3 mm thick steel plate, provides a stable and durable connection to the building structure and supports the safe transfer of applied forces.
