Self-Release Device for Armored Doors

The self-release device enables emergency opening of armored doors from the inside when the regular exit is blocked. It is particularly useful when external access is obstructed by debris or other obstacles and the safe room cannot be evacuated through the designated emergency exits.

Thanks to its mechanical design, the armored door can be pushed open in a controlled manner from the inside. This creates an opening width of approximately 35 cm, allowing occupants to leave the safe room independently. The device significantly increases safety and operational capability in emergency situations.

The self-release device is compatible with armored doors PT 1 and PT 2 and is installed on the inside of the armored door. The design complies with the applicable guidelines of the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection (BABS).

Construction & Design

The device consists of a robust steel construction and was specifically developed for protective structures.

Emergency Procedure

1. Turn the locking lever (1) into the vertical position to open the door.

2. If the lever cannot be turned:

   • Remove the lock nut and nut (2) using the key of the self-release device.

   • Remove the drive disc (3).

   • The locking lever can now be operated independently of the position of the external locking mechanism.

3. Insert the square tube (4) into the door frame with the bevelled side facing the door until it reaches the stop.

4. Insert the special nut (5) into the square tube and place the attachment into the designated hole.

5. Screw the threaded spindle (6) through the special nut until it reaches the centering point (7) on the door.

6. Continue turning with the key to push the door open in a controlled manner.
