Gas Filter GF-40 – ABC Protection Filter for Shelters
The GF-40 gas filter reliably protects occupants in shelters against nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) contamination. It prevents the ingress of radioactive dust, biological aerosols, and chemical pollutants, thereby ensuring a safe and controlled air supply.
Contaminated outside air is drawn in by a fan and initially passes through a particulate filter, where radioactive particles and biological agents are effectively retained. The air is then purified by an activated carbon gas adsorption filter, which removes chemical contaminants. As a result, only filtered air enters the shelter.
Design and Construction
The GF-40 gas filter features a robust, powder-coated steel housing designed for long-term use in civil and governmental shelter systems. Its compact design allows secure floor mounting and seamless integration into existing ventilation systems.
Standards, Certification, and Type Approval
The GF-40 gas filter complies with the regulations of the Federal Office for Civil Protection (BABS).
Type testing is conducted by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence (VBS).
Approvals (depending on manufacturer): BZS T 76-003; BZS T 88-013
BSSD ensures that only tested and approved gas filters are used in shelter systems.
Integration into Ventilation Systems
The GF-40 gas filter is designed as a system component of the VA-40 ventilation unit. It operates in conjunction with the VA-40 and provides the gas filtration stage for NBC protection within the system. This makes the GF-40 an integral part of the filtered air supply during gas filter operation.
In particular, the combination of the VA-40 ventilation unit and the GF-40 gas filter ensures compliant switching from fresh air mode to gas filter mode in accordance with BABS requirements.
