High-Performance Air Supply for Large Protective Shelters
The VA 150 ventilation system is designed for continuous operation in protective shelters with high occupancy levels. It ensures a reliable supply of breathable air for occupants while continuously removing stale indoor air. This maintains a stable oxygen level and reduces carbon dioxide concentration.
During normal operation, the system supplies fresh air from outside. In an emergency, it can be quickly switched to gas filtration mode without tools. The changeover is performed by disconnecting the flexible hoses, enabling effective filtered air supply in the event of chemical, biological, or other hazardous contamination.
Standards, Certification, and Type Approval
All VA-150 ventilation systems supplied by BSSD are manufactured according to the guidelines of the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection (BABS) and are type-tested by the SPIEZ LABOR of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (VBS).
Approvals (depending on manufacturer): BZS T 87-003, BZS TE 98-005
The specific approval depends on the design and manufacturer. BSSD ensures that only tested and approved systems are supplied.
Design, integration, and system compatibility
The VA 150 ventilation system is designed as a powerful standalone unit and is suitable for both wall mounting inside protective shelters and installation in separate technical rooms. For larger facilities, multiple units can be operated together as a coordinated system.
The system connects to a shared air intake equipped with explosion protection valves and an integrated air filter. Installation dimensions are standardized throughout the VA series, simplifying planning, expansion and replacement.
Differences between configurations—depending on the manufacturer—primarily relate to:
-
Pre-filters
-
Airflow measuring tube
-
Gas filter configuration
Standard Equipment and Emergency Operation
The VA 150 ventilation system is designed for both electrical operation and full manual emergency operation.
-
Ventilation unit with electric motor
-
Reduction gearbox
-
Dynamo with sealed 5-watt emergency lamp
-
On/off switch
-
Attachable hand crank for manual operation
-
Airflow measuring tube with throttle valve
-
Hose pair with coupling and four clamps
-
Operating manual with protective cover
In the event of a power failure, reliable manual operation remains possible. The integrated emergency lighting is powered by the dynamo, allowing safe operation even under outage conditions.
Optional equipment (depending on manufacturer):
-
Electric air heater
-
Non-return valve
-
Non-return valve
-
Mounting anchors
-
Alternative voltage and frequency configurations
Capacity and Applications
The VA 150 ventilation system is designed for protective shelters with 25 to 50 shelter spaces and is particularly suitable for:
-
Large private protective shelters
-
Apartment buildings and residential facilities
-
Public protective shelters
-
Municipal and institutional protection facilities
With its high air supply capacity, the VA 150 is ideal for shelters with increased occupancy and longer periods of use.
Planning Guidelines and Minimum Requirements
-
Floor area per occupant: ≥ 1 m²
-
Floor area per VA unit: ≥ 1 m²
-
Room volume per occupant: ≥ 2.5 m³
-
Minimum shelter size: ≥ 8 m²
-
Minimum shelter width: 2.0 m
-
Minimum shelter height: 2.0 m
-
Maximum occupants per shelter compartment: ≤ 50
Additional planning must also consider furnishing and protective equipment such as blast doors, protective covers, or dry toilets.
We are happy to advise you on selecting the appropriate ventilation system as well as on special requirements and accessory solutions.
